You Got What You Wanted

John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten has put the band back together and is touring the US starting in April. It's not the original, notorious unit that first gave us Public Image LTD after the Sex Pistols broke up, but more of an amalgamation of past players who performed with him after the original unit broke up, or self destructed. That is good news for fans who never saw them when they last performed more than 17 years ago. The bad news is, it seems that the old bypass of Worcester is still in effect as it was years ago when bands toured the Northeast. They will play in Boston on May 4 and 5th, Providence on May 9th, and Northampton on May 16th. Won't someone step up and offer them a gig in Wormtown? Wouldn't you love to see this show in your hometown? If you don't feel like traveling to see them play, they will be on TV next Wednesday on Jimmy Kimmel's show, their first US TV appearance since 1992.
More info on Pil's Myspace, including a live cut from last year, and an interview with the man himself.

Wormtown Weekend

It's here again. The weekend. Before you make your plans, tune in tonight at 9pm to WCUW 91.3fm and listen to "Glimpses" with John McKeag and his special guest Brian Goslow as they ask for your support for the station while spinning their favorite 45 rpm records.
Friday, it's punk, it's reggae, it's Ralph's for The Commandos, Mack the Knife, The Gobshites, and Guns of Navarone. I guess you can throw in a little left over St.Patrick's day partying with Pete Depressed and his Gobshites.
Saturday, it's back to The Ship Room at The Hotel Vernon for those dirt rockers from Athol, Bottlefight, James Keyes, and Ten Foot Polecats. Note, this is not a free show. But worth the money anyway. James is playing in support of his solo disc, "Ruminations" and the Polecats are a blues based outfit from Boston.
So there is the whole spectrum of musical styles this week right here in Wormtown, don't miss out.

The Numbskulls kick off their 7 shows in 7 months in The Ship Room with help from The Pity Whores, The Furiousity, The Uncomfortables, Fuax Ox, and Slitstich. Wormtown St. Patrick's Day

The luck of Irish be with you.
I like to head to Fiddler's Green on the corner of Green and Temple St. for the traditional Party. Corned Beef sandwiches, Irish bands, and beer. Preferably Guinness. It's a good time.

However, this year, the day also offers the Grand Opening of Wormtown Brewery on Park Ave next to Peppercorns. That's right, all the work is done and now you can go drink some hometown brewed beer. Start a new tradition, drink local! The party starts at 5pm. Don't miss it!

And now, here are the Big Bad Bollocks to get you in the spirit

Worcester, 1980

From an estate sale last weekend.
Wormtown, 1980, as seen by Archar, Inc. in cooperation with Worcester CVB and COC. I remember when these guys were traveling around the city, from Ontario Canada no less. They came into the print shop and asked if we wanted to be featured in this whimsical map of businesses and local attractions that would help people to discover the city they lived and worked in. I think the charge was about 50 dollars, and the boss declined. I did the best I could to scan it with my equipment and software.

Don't Shoot That Thing At Me

Attended "Who Shot Rock & Roll" opening last night, thanks Allison. Tons of great photos from every era, of course I favored the punk ones, Iggy, Johnny, Henry, but also some great old surprises. There is Elvis, Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Pete Townsend, the list goes on. By all means you should check this out, it's free on Saturday mornings, so you have no excuse. We doesn't get shows of this caliber often. And don't forget the Wormtown Show on April 8th, that's also a freebie.

Wormtown Weekend

Another week, another bunch of great shows right here in Wormtown. Did the city put something new in the water? It's been non stop rock since January 1st.
Start Thursday night at The Raven with Golden Girls,The Sharpest,General Interest,Britney’s Spear for pure punk rock action.
Friday kick it up a notch with some HC Punk at Ralph's with Smartbomb, Pitfall, Villain, from Marlborough, The Decline, Antietam, and Think Again.
Also on Friday over at Vincents, The Stumbleweeds are in town playing their Rockabilly/Roots/Americana music. This band is one you should check out if you're into that stuff. They are true purveyors of the style, and spend most of the summer on the road, so catch them here while you can.
On Saturday, sail over to The Hotel Vernon for Ashland's Attic from Boston with The Clozapines and Mack the Knife, in The Ship Room.
And don't forget the "Who Shot Rock & Roll" exhibit at The Worcester Art Museum kicks off Saturday with a huge bash and runs through May 30th.
Go forth and rock out!

Wormtown Art Update v2

Today I was contacted by Worcester Art Museum, they apologized for not including me and invited me to join in the "Wormtown Rocks" exhibit and we're going meet on Friday, to discuss it further. I guess I was a myth. I need a better agent.
So, by all means, attend the opening this weekend of "Who Shot Rock n Roll" and make sure to show up on April 6th for the Wormtown show.

Behind the Numbskulls

Last week I had the great privilege to hang out with The Numbskulls, Wormtown's #1 Punk Band, as they worked on their latest CD. In a cramped underground lair, while the rain poured down outside, they ran through about 3 songs that are part of the 11 new ones included on the yet untitled disc. Also, on March 27th, they begin a series of shows at The Hotel Vernon that will run through September playing one Saturday each month.
So here are Alex, Lysie, James and John, The Numbskulls.

And Steve Blake of Toad Hall at the knobs.

Wormtown Art Update

I have been trying to contact the folks over at The Worcester Art Museum with no luck. I know of at least two people who have told them of my displeasure regarding them using Wormtown for their upcoming exhibit, "Wormtown Rocks", without consent or acknowledgment, but now are assuming they don't want to talk to me, or think I am a myth. Stay tuned...
