December 1981, Another Year Over

And deeper in debt. Mission of Burma review from The Pub. Police control the crowd.Peter Dayton Band, The Jam, Taxi Boys, The Odds, band of the year, T&G shit of the year, Ralphs, Bar of the Year (again). Rolling Stones, aka The Cockroaches, at Sir Morgans Cove , bore of the year. I remember that day, and you wouldn't catch me anywhere near that place. Hundreds crowded Green St. the pouring rain to maybe get a glimpse of the stone age rock band who are still touring today. If they were old then, what are they now? On life support? They make millions on each show they play and haven't been relevant for at least 30 years.

November 1981, No Turkeys Allowed

Boys Life, John Surettes' first band, plays Ralph's for WICN. The Odds and The Nebulas do an afternoon show at The Pub on Park Ave. That was Cactus Pete's up until recently. Let Them Eat Jellybeans, one of the all time great punk comps was released. U2 released "October", who could have known back then they'd become the powerhouse band of the decade back then. And I moved my radio show to a prime spot, Friday nights on WICN. And a review of Willie Loco Alexanders return to performing after a three year absence was the talk of Boston. I believe it was with his band The Confessions. Willie is still around occasionally today, you can get latest CD "Dog Bar Yacht Club" , with the Boom Boom Band online at www.williealexander.com

October 1981, A Quick One

Another short issue, only 1 side. We've got Lyres, Human Sexual Response, me complaining (!) about the music coverage in the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. Or was it the Gazette. Remember when they use to print two papers in one day? And also Romeo Void at Ralphs sponsored by WICN. I remember that night. We brought them back to the station for an interview and at one point I went into the record library to get a record and there was their lead singer, Deborah Iyall on the floor with some lucky fan. I wonder if she liked him better after they slept together? Never say never.

August 1981, Wormtown Dog Days

Boy this year is flying ! Human Sexual Response, Mission of Burma, Psychedelic Furs, Club listings, and The Moral Majority. Jerry Falwell and his lot had the ear of the White House and were out to save the USA from people like me. Didn't work. Read all about it. Another issue that was devoid of any Worcester bands. And I call this a local fanzine. And you all believed me! MWAH Ha Ha Ha! But seriously, I was just short on funds back then, and could print for free.
You could hear it all on the radio show on wicn though.

May 1981, Three Years Old

Yes , now 3 years strong , Wormtown carries on. This issue contains news of Antmusic, A Wicked Good Time, The Odds, Pastiche, Dead Kennedys and the Reagan assassination attempt. But Ronnie wasn't going out like that. Oh no, he was in it for the long haul. We haven't even got to Afghanistan or Nicaragua yet. And let's not forget Nancy 's "Just Say No" campaign . You can still see the benefits of that program today. And as a bonus, you get a reprint of the first issue. It's like nostalgia. Deja vu all over again.

March 1981, No More Punk

In the title anyway. The "Punk Punk"was dropped. Punk was dead , I guess. Or was it? There are only 6 issues this year, must have been real lazy. Or maybe I just didn't care. Anyway it's the debut piece for The Odds! After trying to find their identity with several different names they settled on this, and it stuck for the rest of their days. Don't forget, they are reuniting for the 30th anniversary show at Ralphs on May 3rd, along with The Performers, and the Prefab Messiahs with Bobb Trimble. And The Commandos were just added to the friday show. More on that later.
This was suppose to be about that cheap ass one sided issue from March of '81.

December 1980, a year in review

Lots of "Best Of" stuff. Seem to be alot of that going around now in Worcester. Womag has their "Turtle Boy" stuff and The Pulse has their "Best of Worcester" stuff. Does anybody out there really think we need two award ceremonies? Well this issue didn't give out awards and nobody but me got to vote. Well, I wouldn't say it was a vote, since I wrote it you only get my opinion. But we've got Ralph's', and The Rave-Ons, Buzzcocks, WCUW , WICN, The Blue Moon Band, and of coarse The Clash. Now if only my brain had spell check back then, it would have been a perfect world.
