Wormtown Weekend

Starting early again this week, Thursday at Ralph's for an all out punk rock assault with Sadplant, The Pathetics, The Pity Whores, who should just move to Wormtown from Foxboro to save on gas, and For What It's Worth.
Friday, at the Lucky Dog, Hated open for Sinister Urge, a Rob/White Zombie cover band. My cousin, Russ Wyman, plays in Hated, so I give him a plug. They play Metal and are pretty good.
Down the street, Chanticlear make their way back to the scene at The Hotel Vernon, with The Vicious Bastards, The Allston Pants, Slitstich and The Pity Whores, who I hope to hell didn't go home on Thursday.
Saturday, back over to The Diner for Vagiant, Razors in the Night, Kill Conrad & American Motherfuckers, a band from Wormtown I have yet to see, but hear are mind blowing. Try the Burgers.
Out in Boston, John Felice has put together another version of The Real Kids, legendary band from the 70's, and will be playing at The Cantab on Mass Ave.
That's a weekend chock full of rock if ever there was one.
Play safe.

UPDATE: Bottlefight is playing at The Red Onion on Main St. in Otter River, MA on Saturday the 14th. Just go up rte. 68 past Gahdnah. Bring bail money.

Wormtown History: Xit

It was 27 years ago today Wormtown's only punk rock nightclub opened on Millbury Street. It lasted about three or four years and had many owner/management changes and was eventually forced out of business by the powers that be, doing their best to rid Worcester of this dangerous type of music.
I did some scans of the Telegram's take on the club after the grand opening, and the cards they use to produce to keep people informed of what was upcoming in that den of iniquity.

Divertion: Doctor Who

This post has nothing to do with Wormtown or Rock n Roll.
I've been a Doctor Who geek since the 80's when they use to show it on Channel 2.
It's the longest running sci fi show in the world, starting in 1963.
I was browsing the BBC site and came upon this picture. They are now filming the latest installment in Dubai, and apparently it's some crew members job to SWEEP THE DESERT!

Muck and the Mires

From last Friday at Vincents.
As I mentioned the other day, they're off to SXSW and the UK in two weeks.
We got to see them up close and personal in Wormtown.
Here's some videos.

Wormtown Weekend

March into the first weekend of the month. Get an early start tonight at The Lucky Dog where The Pathetics help kick off the clubs 10th Anniversary Weekend. It's been that long already? Time flys....
Friday, Muck and the Mires warm up for their SXSW gig, where they will be opening for the New York Dolls, at Vincents. They are minutes away from releasing their new LP "Hypnotic" and are traveling to London for the release party.
Also on Friday, there is a punk show at The Gym on Main St, downtown with The Pity Whores, The Sentence, Hoodrat, and Silent Mind. I've never been to The Gym. I may have been there when it was something else. See flier for dress code, but not date of show.
Saturday, The Greyhound Pub tries something new. Two shows, one at 7:30 and one at 9:30 with The Swaggerin' Growlers and The Guns of Navarone. 1st one is all ages, so all the old folks (like me) can get out and rock before 10 pm, right?
Or, run across Kelly Square to The Hotel Vernon for Can't Kill Katie,The Black Noise Scam, BEERDOZER and The Jonee Earthquake Band. Watch the traffic.
That's a boatload of Rock n Roll this weekend, and due to my own economic down turn, I'll only be at one of them. Which one?
Tune in next week. Same Worm time, same Worm channel.
