Wormtown Weekend

Only one punk rock show this week.
Bovachevo and The Young Leaves play the Hotel Vernon's Ship Room Saturday night. I have not seen these guys yet, but judging by the songs on their myspace pages, this will be a wild show. Don't waste your time anywhere else.
What a tragic week for the rich and famous. Ed, Farrah, and Jacko.
But by far, the biggest news to those of you who like real rock n roll is the passing of Sky Saxon, lead singer of The Seeds. He died on Thursday. One of the best 60's garage bands, they left their mark.

And for Ed McMahon

WTF's

Mid week WTF.
Slow week I guess.

Look at this satellite shot of the USA.
Most of the country is sunny and beautiful.
We in New England are in are 4th day of rain. WTF?

You've probably seen this credit card ad.
All famous food characters come together for dinner.
Why is the Gorton's Fisherman there?
He's not a cartoon. WTF?

Take a look at Ralph's upcoming schedule.
I may be old and out of touch, but I've never heard of most of these bands.
Who are they?
And it looks like they are taking a page out of The Lucky Dog's book featuring "tribute" nights. WTF?

That's all. Carry on.

Welcome to Summah!

Look on your calendar, it's summertime 2009.
Look out your window, eh?
But now we enter the longest days of the year.
Plenty of time to listen to The Worm Bros Summah Spectacular.
Don't forget your sun screen.

Wormtown Weekend

Kinda slow this week, but there is one of show worth seeing.
Jason James and the Baystate Houserockers play roots rock at Vincents on Friday.
And on Sunday night, you can't kill Katie, but she is celebrating her marriage at The Ship Room in The Hotel Vernon so stop by and wish her well.
Sunday is also Fathers Day. Now, this day does not get the same push as Mothers Day, so celebrate if you're a Dad, and if not, go buy your Dad some Gansett and get him a new tie. You can also check out a band I discovered this week via Boing Boing, Punks Not Dad. They are a bunch of old punks from the UK who have a great sound and sense of humour. They sing songs about being a Dad, partying in their shed , and the power of punk rock music. Check out their page and this video. Good stuff.

Vacation's Over

Now back to stupid reality.
I've always loved Cape Cod, ever since I was a kid.
I have never traveled the world , but I can't imagine there is any place more beautiful than the shores of Wellfleet.
Enjoy the video with a surf soundtrack.

Wormtown Weekend

This week's show, Friday in The Ship Room of The Hotel Vernon, feature Sharks Come Cruisin. A band of Pirates from Providence, RI who sing sea shantys, and other songs of the nautical nature. I have been wanting to see these guys ever since I found them on the web via Narragansetts' Myspace page. They have a great cd ep out now and have been packing them in all accross the bars of New England and are sure to be a big hit here in Wormtown. Sail youself down to Kelly Square and share some grog with them.

Wormtown Weekend

There is only one show this week worthy of the Wormtown Stamp of Approval.
Saturday night at Ralph's, it's old school punk and rock time with The Commandos, one of the founding fathers of the scene, and Classic Ruins, along with a group I've never heard of, Bovachevo. As you know, The Commandos have been there since the beginning, and The Classic Ruins have been playing since the late 70's as well and feature Jeff Crane, formally of the Commandos on guitar. I don't know if he'll be joining his ex band mates for this show, but it'll be worthwhile anyway. This show is so important, they made two fliers.
UPDATE: Yes Jeff Crane is playing with The Commandos, as it should be. See Matt Griffins post on Wormtown.org

A Commandos produced fanzine from late 70's early 80's
