Wormtown Weekend

Halloween falls on Friday this year, so it's an extra special SPOOKY weekend. Zombie Ralph has risen!!! Friday at Ralph's The Steamy Bohemians host Jerkus Circus with Comedians, Burlesque and The Chicken Slacks Soul Revue, featuring Big D on vocals, formally of Worcesters own Rhythm Rockers. Over at The Lucky Dog , The Deadites play their annual Halloween show. Get there early , it's always packed to the roof when they perform.
Saturday,a couple of daytime happenings worth noting. WCUW is having an open house/record and cd sale at the station , 910 main St. from 9 am to 3pm. Go buy some stuff and support them.
The cAnalFest, postponed from earlier this fall, will be held on Franklin St in front of the Garage Mahal, in case it rains, you'll be able to go in the storefronts located there and Union Station. Come celebrate what was once Worcester's largest open sewer.
Later that evening, Flag down Bob from The Hotel Vernon, and hitch a ride on his Wagon to go see Can't Kill Katie and a bunch of other bands in the Ship Room.
Or go to The Lucky Dog for the reunion of Seven Hill Psychos, one of Wormtowns' all time great hardcore bands.
That ought to be enough rock and roll to wake The Dead.
UPDATE!!! Forgot a couple, Jason James is at Hotel Vernon tonight and at Tammany Hall tomorrow with The Guns Of Navarone.

Halloween Spooktacular

New show by The Worm Bros. We play lots of spooky music, DMZ live from Church last week and Numbskulls live at Ralph's earlier this month. Speaking of Ralph's, what a great party last Saturday for Steve's 10th anniversary . Numbskulls started it all off, Huck were warming up for their CD release party Nov 8th, Bottlefight destroyed the place, and The Pathetics were in fine form, and The Classic Ruins came all the way from Boston to help with the vibe. Look at the pictures, watch the videos. Also included one from DMZ. It was a rockin weekend, to say the least.

Wormtown Weekend

Lot's of fun stuff to do this week, but first, check out the Editorial Cartoon from todays' Telegram.

OK, we'll start at The Lucky Dog on Friday for an Alice Cooper Tribute show, brought to you by Voodoo Screw Machine. A chance to get ready for Halloween.
If a Guy named Alice isn't your bag,try Ralph's with Ghouls Night Out and B.L.O.W.W. , and Boston League of Women Wrestlers. What could be more fun than Ghoulish Girls, and Lady Wrestlers???
Saturday there is an all ages Punk show at Nature's Classroom in Charlton .I don't know anything about this place. Maybe they will do a spooky walk or something. Anywho, it's got Hoodrat, Can't Kill Katie, Public Uproar, Pitywhores, Sadplant, and Bovochivo.

For those of you legal drinkin age people, over at Ralphs' Steve the Soundman, the best sound guy in town and maybe the world , is celebrating 10 years of twiddling the knobs upstairs at The Blue Moon Saloon. The stories this guy can tell ya. He's seen it all. On the bill are Huck, Thinner , Bees Knees, Pathetics , and The Numbskulls, plus a host of others I saw listed on the wall next to the soundboard last week. The music starts early at 6:30, so go and have a burger and strap yourself in for the ride.
That's my plan and I'm sticking to it.

The Prefab Messiahs

Are now a cartoon!!!!!

They were at The Wormtown 30th, and now are a full color cartoon done by Xeth

"Description: Animator Xeth Feinberg (Queer Duck, Bulbo, PapĆ¼) revisits the misadventures of his early-80s band The Prefab Messiahs. This 3+ minute cartoon/music-video is set in 1982, in a fictionalized "Wurmtown" (aka Wormtown aka Worcester MA). The 1960s Beatles cartoon series is an obvious touchstone.

Cameo appearances include those by Bobb Trimble (at 1:00), Captain PJ (at the end), and Oscar the Squirrel (throughout). This will be the first in a series, we hope!

Rock at Ralph's

Here's a couple of videos from Friday night. Hoodrat and Psalm-7. Sound is not great, but you get the idea. I wish my camera had a recording volume control.
I also heard the show tonight at The Hotel Vernon IS NOT happening. But you can still go down and watch the Red Sox if you like. Have some cheap Gansetts!!!

Wormtown Weekend

Pirates and Punks this week. Friday night at Ralphs, from New York It's Murphy's Law, veteran hardcore rockers with, Hannaford and the Heartstoppers from Boston playing grindcore and Hoodrat, who are turning into Wormtowns' hardest working band playing gigs every week lately, and Psalm-7, ex PTL Club, hardcore band fronted by DKCah on vocals, with Chris Cah on Bass. I've seen Dave drum, but never sing. This ought to be a treat.
On Saturday, steer the ship toward The Hotel Vernon, and tie it up for the night, but beware. Jonee Earthquake Band from Manchester NH will be taking over the Ship Room and holding it for ransom, and a band I can't find any info about called Calamity. Also, a band who could not have a better name,Worm, from Pembroke who play "working class rock". How come I have never heard of them until now?? Also on the bill Riff Cannon from Boston, and Hoodrat, working off their hangover from Friday Night.
And I want to tell you about a great show next Thursday at The Church in Boston. Back together for the first time in many years , the legendary DMZ. They started playing in the mid 70's , before there was even any mention of punk, fronted by Jeff Connoly, aka Monoman, and featuring JJ Rassler , our own guitar god from The Odds. They are playing this show and then one the following Saturday in Hoboken NJ and that's it. So you don't want to miss this one.

WRTA

Wormtown Really Trippy Accouterments!
As you may have seen, they have a new design on the busses around town. They even have some real space-age looking ones with big blue displays on the front. The only thing is, when they picked a paint scheme , they looked back to another era, when gas was cheap, and Spags had the best deals in town. I took this at the airport. They send a bus there every hour just in case a plane happens to fly in and someone needs to go Downtown. And to make matters worse, 1976 called. They want royalties.

Wormtown Weekend

I've been home sick all day. Lot of Boomerang, Game Show Network, (classics ONLY, Match Game, Password, etc), Married With Children, the one where Bud turns 18,and saw this. Fuckin' Mental Yogi Bear.

As far as rock goes, Friday over at Ralph's it's River City Rebels, punk rock from Vermont?? I thought it was only granola eating hippies up there. Oh and snow Bunnies.
Along with Wormtowns' kings of Ska, Guns Of Navarone. It should be a great night.
Then on Saturday, still at the Diner, It's a great night of roots rockabilly music with Psychobilly Cadillac, Nate Gibson and the Gashouse Gang, and Elsa Cross.
If I can get off the Nyquil by then , I'll be there.

Wormtown Weekend

WOW, what a weekend coming up. There so much going on , you couldn't possibly do it all. But try anyway. Start Friday at The Lucky Dog with Sasquatch and the Sick-a-Billys. Always guaranteed to be a wild time, go and see why this guy gets banned from most of the bars he performs.
Then on Saturday there are at least 5 shows to go to. First at Benders on Park Ave. Public Uproar open for a bunch of bands I've never seen before ,and it starts early and so should you! Next , head over to Ralph's for The Numbskulls, Gein and the Graverobbers, The Automatons, and The Rabies, from Buffalo NY. Ok, by now you're probaly getting hungry , so stop by Nick's on Millbury St for their one year anniversary party with FREE FOOD! and performances from Lisa Marie and Friends.
After that, while you're in the neighborhood, finish up at The Hotel Vernon for a FREE punk show featuring Can't Kill Katie, Refuse Resist, Hoodrat,Electric Bucket, and The Dipshits.
That should keep you and you liver rockin' all weekend.
